About
Designed and handmade jewellery with love by Astrid Ruiz
I was born in Medellin Colombia where I trained and qualified as an Architect and I moved to England in 2001 and became a British national.
After settling in Kingsbridge South Devon with my husband, I became a Primary School Teacher and then an assistant teacher of Spanish at Kingsbridge Community College.
The nature around the South Hams inspires me to create and develop my art in different media and I have settled on my latest venture to create jewellery, which is made from minute glass beads, stitched together with silk thread.
This technique is called Miyuki Bead weaving.
I love using this media as it allows me to experiment with colour and forms and create an art form, which is wearable.
All my pieces are unique in design and colour and made with the finest and highest quality of glass beads and silk threads
My pieces are on show at the Avonmill, Artisan hub as well as being available in my online in my shop
Rings
As the rings are flexible, this suits many people with arthritis, making them easier to take on and off.
Rings can be made to your size, the ones I have in stock range from the more popular sizes of K - M
Earrings
The fittings on my earring sets are Sterling Silver, however for people with an intolerance to most metals, I can supply the earrings with Surgical Steel.
Pendants
The pendants are all created and designed individually and are unique in pattern. They are sold with a standard Silver plated, or Gold plated chain 62cm in length.
